View Full Version : chkrootkit - how do I "repair" false positives?
hello,
I have 5 files that are shown as 'infected' by chkrootkit but rootkithunter shows them as 'okay' so I think they are just false positives ...
now, do I have to repair the 5 files (how?) or do i have to do something with chkrootkit to get rid off the 'infected' messages?

Greetings Oliver:
Knowing the details helps people who may be able to help you.
Please show the complete results of your chkrootkit and rkhunter (do not run in cron job mode to get the complete results).
Thank you.
uh, I thought I was giving enough information on this one, but okay:
freebsd 4.9,
chkrootkit 0.41, output:

Greetings:
With chkrootkit reporting the following infections, it is possible that rkhunter is compromised in its report:
Checking `chfn'... INFECTED
Checking `chsh'... INFECTED
Checking `date'... INFECTED
Checking `ls'... INFECTED
Checking `ps'... INFECTED
I recommend taking the following actions:
1. Review your log files for suspicious activity.
2. Check /tmp, /var/tmp, /dev/shm (may not be applicable for FreeBSD) for root kits and/or suspicous files
3. Compare the file date and time stamp of the above files (typically located in /bin, /sbin/, /usr/bin/, and /usr/sbin) with those of an uninfected system.
If you have been root kitted, then a system wipe and restore are in order.
Thank you.
