Hello everyone,

Quick question. Let's say my Linux server has two 60GB hard drives and there's no hard ware RADI controller at all. Would you mirror them using software RAID or just use them independently?

Thanks,
Tom

Greetings Tom:

I am a firm believer in hardware raid.

On the software raid, if you are comfortable setting it up; AND, realize that a crash to the section it stores the raid information can kill the data on both drives, then that's ok.

Thank you.

independently?

Software raid is a waste of time IMHO .. use the second drive as a backup device .. you will be happier ..

Thanks Dynamicnet for your input. I'm just starting to learn Linux.
I don't even know how if I can manage to configure software RADI in Linux.
I think I like to have the full capacity of 120GB too.

Regards,
Tom
