Thanks

It is very good, a bit on the expensive side. I believe there is a discussion in the customers forum that may be of interest to you about alternatives.

Is it easy to setup and can you use it with remote servers at differnt data centers?

I use it to monitor systems at remote datacenters. I have not gotten some of the advanced restart functions working, but honestly have not tried either.

I have it installed here on my home server and it monitors servers in 3 datacenters. And when something fails it sends out email and puts a message up on my screen telling me what failed. It wasn't hard to setup.

Does it have remote warning, like to cell or pager?

I'm honestly not familiar with ipMonitor, but if you haven't already, I definately suggest checking out nagios (http://www.nagios.org)

I've used Webtrends Alerting and Monitoring (going away), ipMonitor 6 and 7 (v7 has activation, but some very nice new features), and I've used a handful of open-source products like Nagios, and I like ipMonitor the best.

It does everything, and is very reliable and easy on the CPU, unlike Webtrends. Most of the open-source products are ok, but are usually not as professional and less of a polished look/feel, so if a status page for customers to see is something you desire, that becomes an issue.

You might want to take a look at Big Brother [http://quest.com/bigbrother/]. It's light on resources, email/paging capabilities and web for history.

There's a non-commercial version at [http://www.bb4.org/].

whats the problem in doing this with nagios ?

compile with the mysql options and you have all data you need about any service in your sql db.

simply integrate the output into your company homepage.

I found BB pretty good when it worked, when it didn't oh the time spent resetting to remove the purple death and history logs lost doing it..

Another problem with BB, IPmonitor etc, what happens if the PC or Server with the alert goes down or internet access is lost, -- how do you get alerted? – you cant ..
unless you setup a another monitor to monitor the monitor 

After much time searching for a monitor, cost efficient and effective - I found http://www.hyperspin.com/ -- costs are very very reasonable, in fact, to this day, the best I ever seen, and the service is excellent, I monitor a few of my most critical servers at 1 minute check - I am on the phone before my upstream provider are aware of the problem.. I have alerted them many a times before their own alerts kicked in..

With a signup, I believe they include one monitor free not 100% sure, use to be 5..
For $7.95/mth you can monitor 5 additional services –
other web services I seen offer the same service At 5 to 20 times that amount for
the same service ..

Added bonus, you can add a uptime status report to your website
Nice feature if you wish to show your servers real status and uptime –
For me, I use it a selling tool – Provides visual proof to our claim
of 99.5% or better uptime validity –

again, my two cents –

PS – I am only a customer no other affiliation

I just started testing Ipswitch Whatsup SBE which seems to work very nicely and doesn't require the installation of any software on any monitored system (router, server, etc):

http://www.ipswitch.com/

You can find the pricing to be very resonable especially if purchased from a reseller. They also offer a 30 day trial before buying. The only thing it doesn't offer is the capability to notify you via pager, sms, or im (it does do e-mail notification).

Hope this helps and if anyone has any feedback, please share them.
