View Full Version : Remote KBM
Looking for recommendations on which remote KBM to purchase -
We need one to access our Unix and windows Servers - I'm tired of Driving out to my datacenter when a server hangs or if I need to make changes requiring console access.
thank :)
Sincerely
Barry
KVM you mean?
you can use a Avocent switchview with any standard KVM that can use hotkeys (most of them)
Or you could buy a pure avocent KVM switch tha tis IP enabled automatically.
Hi,
We currently use KaveMan (http://www.digitalv6.com/) which is good and can be accessed via web http or https and via VNC (they can also integrate with there own remote power - but we use APC for that)
Cheers,
Sean

This look interesting to me. Never have i used this before and have been using putty and VNC all the while.
Can I check if this allows rebooting of servers if it hangs for some reasons and cannot access through SSH or VNC?
Thanks
Hi Yong,
Yes, if you purchase their power module as well you can remotely power cycle your server from the same web interface - you can get it to automatically do it as well I think, eg it can monitor if num lock is responding etc and if not it will power cycle - I'd say it's a bit risky to use things like that - but it's an option, like I said though we don't use their power module as we use APC for that (which also have a web interface for power cycling)
Cheers,
Sean

yep your correct I meant "KVM" -
do you find much of a lag when you IP in ..
Thanks

Well, it is slightly slower than terminal services directly to a windows machine, but it is not bad.
