Hi,

I have setup a reseller using the domain windydesign.com

I setup the DNS zone etc under the reseller account.

Now,

For obvious reasons I wish to use the domain windydesign.com but I can't understand how I am supposed to

a) login to the control panel for this domain since no details were sent.

b) login to FTP for this domain

I try to setup an account for this domain using the SIGNUP and that gets rejected too cos the DNS exists it says.

Im confuzzled

This problem bites just about every reseller we signup, even though we tell them to watch out for it. It is a sneaky little "Gotcha". Go through the signup for the domain and when you get to the page that asks about domain registration or transfer, note that one option is to "Register a service domain" - or something very similar to that. That is the option to choose, otherwise it will not work. You'll get that reject message you describe.

Thanks,

I don't see anything like that all i get is:

You can register your own new domain or transfer an existing domain.

Choose Register New OpenSRS Standard ... to create a new domain name with the .com, .net, or .org extension. Your domain owner's data will be automatically submitted and thereafter supported by H-Sphere.

Choose Transfer Existing Or Register Unsupported Domain if you have already registered a domain or if you want to register a new domain name with an organization other than OpenSRS.

Choose Register 3rd Level Domain to register domain based on domain names supplied by our company, such as test.psoft.net.

Register New OpenSRS Standard Domain (.com, .net, .org)
Transfer Existing Or Register Unsupported Domain
Register 3rd Level Domain.

Sounds like another common problem. Make sure that the plan you are using to sign up your service domain has "Service domain" checked in the domain types section of the plan.

Click on the plan name in your main INFO screen to open the plan edit wizard. This will be near the top of the settings.

Thanks I have got it setup now however

I have two accounts on the reseller domain which itself is windydesign.com

I have dontputupwithit.co.uk too

http://dontputu.u28.windydesign.com/login.html

That all loads fine (the DNS for teh domain hasn't prop yet)

however the new welcome letter told me to administer windydesign.com to go here

http://windydes.u28.windydesign.com/login.html

this URL doesn't work for me

http://windydesign.com/login.html

also doesn't

any ideas on that? Thanks for the help this new CP is confusing me

Have you set up your Server Aliases?
Has the domain windydesign.com resolve to your HSphere server?
You can always get to it by using the login/pass for the account at the reseller control panel.

Yeah I have

cp.windydesign.com 86400 IN CNAME cp.swiftyhost.com
mail.windydesign.com 86400 IN CNAME mail.swiftyhost.com
web.windydesign.com 86400 IN CNAME web.swiftyhost.com
mysql.windydesign.com 86400 IN CNAME mysql.swiftyhost.com
win.windydesign.com 86400 IN CNAME win.swiftyhost.com

The domain is resolving fine- the problem is i wish to use the domain for the website that I host on that domain

EDIT:

I have now set the domain to DEDICATED IP. THis is 216.177.51.69

When I view the domain via that IP it all works fine but when I try to either view via windydesign.com it won't work.

I have also tried changing the BASE URL but it spat out NOT FOUND errors

I am able to get to the login page and the site via http://windydesign.com

One thing that is confusing about the HSphere is that a reseller has 3 login/pass combos for the different levels.

Level 1 is the main account, where you see the login for the Administrative account

Level 2 is the reseller administrative account. This is where you set up your server aliases, cp look and feel, mail settings, etc. Here you will have a DNS Zone for windydesign.com, but this CP does not have a domain. You can put many DNS Zones in here for different hosting companies, e.g. prohost, myhost, webhost, windydesign. And you can set up aliases in each of those zones, but no domains/sites exist until you set up a service domain.

Level 3 is the service domain you setup. This is your windydesign.com website account. It gives you the same end user CP that your customers will have. This is where you put up your site. End user accounts will get an instant alias from the reseller DNS Zone Instant Aliases set in level 2. That is why the email gave you the "windydes.u28.windydesign.com" URL to use. All of your end customers will get an email like that. The confusing part is, that for the reseller, you must separate Level 2 above from Level 3 - even though they have the same domain name attachment, they are virtually unrelated. Your service domain is just like any customer's domain.

Thanks Integra I apreciate the very detailed explanation very much! Can't thank you enough.

I am not sure why I can't view windydesign.com at the moment perhaps it's a DNS issue with propogation or history files. Very weird indeed. I will wait until tomorrow to see if it is working then.

Thanks once again

This is why we setup all aliases, dns etc. for our resellers as it would just catch too many of them out as it's not an intuative process (Not that there is much scope for making it better).
